What Is Basal Metabolic Rate
What is basal metabolic rate thingy?
It is the rate your body burns food. The bigger the body the faster it burns food. The number of calories used by the body daily before you include even basic exercise (like walking to the kettle in the morning) is between 1200 and 2000 for women and 1500 and 2500 for men.

Our basic energy need is called basal metabolic rate (BMR). If you are on a diet your calorie intake should not be under your weights BMR so that your body has enough energy to live on. If you do take in less cals than your BMR your body will go into starvation mode and this will lower your metabolic rate. Which is a very bad thing and you will lose muscle instead of fat. Which is pointless.
A woman aged 30 – 59 needs less cals daily than a man or a younger woman. Most diets advise eating between 1200 – 2000 cals according to your weight. Or you can base your cal intake on your BMR.
